Strymon Frippertronics
Gear used:
- Godin Solidac with Roland GK-2a pickup
- Strymon TimeLine
- Strymon BigSky
The idea behind this video was to build some kind of Frippertronics looping “system” using minimum number of devices.
Speaking about Frippertronics we often keep in mind Decay parameter. It describes how fast overdubbed loops will fade away. When Decay is set to 0% overdubbed loops volume will not decrease. When set to 100% loops will fade away immediately.
Strictly speaking this is what we call “Repeats” or “Feedback” in delay parameters.
To recreate Frippertronics with some decay effect I set delay Time to maximum available (2500ms) and Repeats to 75%. It lets me play overdubbing layers with decay time best for the case.
Since I used Strymon Timeline as a looper I placed Strymon BigSky reverb prior to delay. Having done that I could change different types of reverb for different parts of the piece.
In a sense Frippertronics, looper and sampler are synonyms. In my opinion we can think of Frippertronics as a looper or delay with Decay time set to 50-75%.
